CNA Financial Corporation announced that effective September 14, Gary Owcar has been appointed president and chief operating officer of CNA Canada. Mr Owcar will be responsible for executing profitable growth strategies in the global insurer’s Canadian operations.

Mr Owcar’s insurance career began right after college. He spent seven years progressing through the claims ranks into supervisory roles for three East Coast insurance companies. In 1980, he joined The Chubb Corporation as a Regional Property Claims supervisor. For the next 19 years, he was responsible for international assignments in Brazil and Asia.

Mr Owcar joined CNA in 1999 to lead its global operations, and his responsibilities expanded to include all of standard commercial lines. In 2006, he went on to pursue two start-up ventures in consulting and training.
