Insurer RSA has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard award.

This is the world’s first carbon award for organizations that measure, manage and make real year-on-year reductions to their carbon footprint.

The UK-based Carbon Trust Standard was developed by the Carbon Trust in 2007-2008 to encourage good practice in carbon measurement, management and reduction by businesses and public sector organizations.

RSA says that achieving the Carbon Trust Standard is the most recent stage in the company’s carbon journey; in December 2006 it became the first insurer in the UK to become carbon neutral. The company has cut its carbon footprint by 23 percent over the three years to 2008.
