The Ontario Government is considering the implementation of a $25,000 injury cap on minor auto injuries after reviewing recommendations for changes to the auto insurance scheme. Premier Dalton McGuinty said Finance Minister Dwight Duncan will draft a new proposal that has the right kind of balance and has “. . . adequate levels ofprotection for drivers and affordability at the same time.”

Consumers have expressed concerns over rising insurance costs as the Financial Services Commission has approved rate increases of 9.1% over the last year. The injury cap and other recommendations come from a five year review of the auto product. No time table has been set for the new proposal.
