Rate applications approved by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario during the third quarter of 2009 averaged + 2.13 percent, based on the entire market.

In the third quarter of 2009, for the 34.38 percent of the market that had rate changes approved, the average rate change was + 6.2 percent, when weighted by market share.

The rate changes approved in the third quarter of 2009 become effective in the third quarter of 2009 or later for renewal business.

The largest approved rate increase of the quarter was a 10 percent increase for Kingsway General Insurance Company. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the company with the largest market share to obtain a rate change during the third quarter, was approved for a rate increase of 5.59 percent
