Narrator: The insurance industry is all too aware of the impending human resources crisis. ILSTV asked Renate Mueller, President of AMAC Consultants Inc. if the industry is doing enough to attract talented young people.

Renate Mueller: I think that the insurance brokers – the whole industry – has not done enough to market the opportunities of an insurance career. I think that we’re getting into more – higher – unemployment. I mean, unemployment in British Columbia and all across Canada has gone up. For the first time I see a human pool coming available as future employees of insurance boards. Before insurance brokers were having a tough time staffing their offices. Now all of a sudden we have an opportunity to bring the younger people who are unemployed into the sector and I think that brings new talent in and it brings in succession planning. So eventually, these will be the managers of the future and the owners of the future.
