Ontario saw double-digit premium increases

According to the recently released Consumer Price Index from Statistics Canada, Ontario residents have seen their homeowners insurance premiums soar in the past year.
From September 2008 to September 2009, StatsCan says the price of home insurance rose an average of 13.1 percent in Ontario. This was double the national average.
The following notes the percentage changes in homeowners insurance premiums from September 2008 to September 2009, according to Statistics Canada:
Newfoundland and Labrador: -11.2
Prince Edward Island: 1.5
Nova Scotia: 6.5
New Brunswick: 5.0
Quebec: 3.1
Ontario: 13.1
Manitoba: -0.9
Saskatchewan: 1.0
Alberta: 6.3
British Columbia: -1.1
