Suncor Energy added two former top executives to its board of directors.

The energy company said former Manulife chief executive Dominic D'Alessandro and former SNC-Lavalin chief executive Jacques Lamarre will join its board.

D'Alessandro retired as head of Manulife Financial earlier this year, a position he held from 1994 to 2009.

Lamarre was president and chief executive officer of the engineering and construction firm from 1996 until earlier this year.

Suncor wrapped up a merger with Petro-Canada on August 1.

The company said earlier this month that it plans to sell up to $4 billion in assets next year as it continues to digest the various operations it took on through its union with Petro-Canada.

North American natural gas assets, smaller North Sea holdings, natural gas operations in Trinidad and Tobago and others are expected to be on the chopping block.
