Note to drivers in Manitoba: every kilometre over the speed limit is going to cost you.
Attorney General Andrew Swan says the government is changing the way it fines speeders in the new year.
Drivers will be charged $7.70 for every kilometre they go over the posted limited.
Right now, there are 10 set fine categories and drivers are charged according to what category their speed puts them into.
Fines for extreme cases of speeding will still require a court appearance.
But the definition of “extreme” is changing to anything over 100 kilometres an hour; the current threshold is 120 kph.
