The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says few Canadians will be receiving tax relief this year, and some will see real tax increases.

The group says most of the tax changes are occurring at the provincial level.

Many residents of Ontario and British Columbia will face a higher tax bill, and in Ontario significantly so, because of the introduction of the harmonized sales tax on July 1.

Meanwhile, New Brunswickers can expect noticeable savings in their tax bill from reductions in tax brackets starting January 1.

The only meaningful change coming from the federal government is that corporate taxes go to 18 per cent starting on January 1, down from 19 per cent.

Federal personal taxes remain unchanged but the federation says workers earning more than $47,200 will wind up paying $44 more in premiums on employment insurance and the Canada Pension Plan.
