Many Canadian insurance companies and banks are donating to support relief and humanitarian efforts in Haiti

Companies and businesses across the globe are pulling together donations to support relief and humanitarian efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Intact Financial has donated an initial $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross. The Co-operators are matching staff and agent donations to the Canadian Red Cross, up to $150,000. The Chubb Corporation has established a $500,000 fund for disaster relief, with $125,000 going to each Doctors without Borders and Share Our Strength. The insurer will also match employee contributions to relief organizations on a two-for-one basis, up to $250,000.

AXA Canada has donated $20,000 to the Canadian Red Cross,  and the Desjardins Group is sending an additional $300,000 to the same organization.

Foresters, which is represented by Unity Life in Canada, is donating $50,000 to Doctors Without Borders.

Each of Canada’s Big Five banks is also contributing to the relief effort: TD, RBC and the CIBC Group of Companies are each donating $100,000 to the Red Cross and BMO and Scotiabank are donating $250,000.
