Interview with Gilles Gratton, VP of Corporate Communications for ING Canada

Narrator: ING Canada announced on February 23rd that ING Insurance Company of Canada, the company’s largest home, auto and business insurer will become Intact Insurance Company and will operate under the Intact Insurance brand name. ILSTV spoke with Gilles Gratton, VP of Corporate Communications to find out what the new corporate structure will look like.

Gilles Gratton: ING Insurance will be known now as Intact Insurance is the largest insurance company in Canada. It’s under Canadian control, our shares are sold on the TSX wide distribution and there are surely a number of U.S. investors who were interested by the company and probably bought some shares of our organization. The corporate structure will remain unchanged - essentially the current structure has been put into place a couple of years ago in order for us to manage our various distribution networks and manage our operation quite efficiently. Essentially the structure with the three main business units will remain the same and in the case of Intact Insurance the structure with regional representation across the country will also remain the same.

There are elements of the rebranding and the marketing which will be done inside and internally, in house. If you’re looking at the number of things such as point of sales, materials, collaterals and so on, these will be done internally but we’ll get some external support for the marketing and advertising campaign that we’re contemplating.

Essentially, ING Canada will change its name to Intact Financial Corporation sometime in May following the approval of the change by our shareholders. In the case of Belair and Grey Power, the brands will remain the same. We’ve spent a lot of money over the years in creating those brands, they are successful brands and our intent is to keep on with the current names and brands.
