An Australian car insurance provider has commissioned research that may worry drivers. Insurer SGIO found that half of all Generation Y drivers admit to being distracted by their own appearance while driving.

Forty-eight percent of 16 to 29 year olds admitted to checking their appearance while driving, compared to 19 percent of drivers over 40. Men, at any age, are less likely to worry about how they look, at just 19 percent, compared to 33 percent of female drivers.

One in eight female drivers between the ages of 30 and 39 admitted that they put on makeup while behind the wheel. SGIO Manager Colin Tierney said that a small number of men said that they shave while in the car.
