People who have cottages on flood-prone leased land north of Winnipeg are being told they'll be compensated for giving up those leases.
The provincial government says about 42 homes in a subdivision in Breezy Point would be affected.
Stan Struthers, the province's conservation minister, says flood prevention measures aren't a viable option in the area.
He says the provincial government would offer those who lease Crown land compensation for giving up those leases.
Some homes in the area were badly damaged by massive ice jams earlier this year.
The province is also supporting a plan to buy out about 15 homeowners in flood-prone areas in the Rural Municipality of St. Clements.
